How it works
Four steps, about twenty seconds.
Any PNG, JPEG or WebP. It is downscaled to 1200 px and read locally, so nothing is uploaded.
The picture is center-cropped to your paper, turned into a light/dark grid, and the biggest connected area becomes the maze body.
A randomized depth-first search builds one connected maze inside that silhouette; Easy adds loops, Hard stays a perfect maze.

Built for the kitchen table
No upload, no account, no server round-trip — the maze is generated in the browser on every keystroke of the sliders.
Only the largest connected region is kept, so you never get floating specks: the maze shape follows the subject.
Letter 2550 × 3300 px or A4 2480 × 3508 px PNG, and a real PDF page at 612 × 792 pt / 595 × 842 pt.
0.6–3.0 mm walls scale with the paper, so fat crayon lines stay readable at any detail level.
A breadth-first search from the start cell to the farthest reachable cell draws the answer route on a second page.

FAQ
Is my photo uploaded anywhere? +
No. The image is decoded in your browser, downscaled to 1200 px on the longest edge, and turned into a grid. Nothing is sent to this site or any third party.
Which photos make the best mazes? +
High-contrast, single-subject pictures: a bold animal, a letter, a logo, a silhouette. Busy scenes work too, but the maze body becomes the largest bright (or dark) area rather than the whole picture.
My photo came out all dark or all light. Why? +
The threshold auto-relaxes, but a near-uniform image has no shape to carve. Flip the "Carve the dark areas instead" toggle, or pick a higher-contrast photo — the status line under the file picker tells you when contrast is low.
Why did part of my image disappear? +
Disconnected islands cannot be reached from the main maze, so only the largest connected region is carved and the rest is dropped. The status line reports exactly how many cells were left out.
What is the difference between Easy, Normal and Hard? +
Easy braids the maze by reopening about 15% of the internal walls, which adds loops and fewer dead ends. Normal adds a few loops; Hard keeps every wall, giving a perfect maze with the most dead ends.
How do I print the PNG? +
The PNG is already 300 DPI for the paper you chose — print it at 100% scale (no "fit to page") and the wall weight stays true to the millimetres shown on the slider.
