How it works

Three steps, no account, no email confirmation. Your invoice never leaves your device.

Step 1
Enter your details

Business name, address, client details, invoice number and dates. The number is pre-filled with today's date plus a random 4-character code so two drafts never clash.

Step 2
Add line items & VAT

Description, quantity and unit rate. Subtotal, VAT and the grand total recompute on every keystroke — in the browser, typically in well under 150ms.

Step 3
Print or save as PDF

One click opens the print dialog with a dedicated A4 stylesheet. Choose a printer or “Save as PDF” and send it. Up to 8 line items fit a single page.

Why freelancers use it

Everything a sole trader actually needs in an invoice tool, and nothing that gets in the way.

🧮
Live VAT maths

Standard 20%, reduced 5%, zero 0% or any custom rate. Totals recompute instantly and out-of-range rates are flagged in red.

🖨️
Print-first layout

A real print stylesheet hides the form, removes shadows and prints a clean A4 invoice — no manual scaling.

🔒
Completely private

No sign-up, no upload, no analytics on your data. Every calculation happens in your browser.

💾
Draft autosave

A half-finished invoice survives a refresh or an accidental tab close via localStorage on your own machine.

💱
GBP, USD, EUR

Pick a currency and every line, subtotal and total is formatted with the right symbol and decimal rules.

🇬🇧
UK-ready fields

Optional VAT number and company number sit right where UK clients expect to see them.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial and no watermark on the printed invoice. Everything runs in your browser, so there is nothing to charge for.

Where is my data stored?

Only in your own browser's localStorage, so a draft survives a refresh. Nothing is uploaded, and the Reset button wipes the draft completely.

How do I save the invoice as a PDF?

Click “Print / Save as PDF”. In the browser print dialog pick “Save as PDF” (Chrome/Edge) or “Print to PDF” (Safari/Firefox) as the destination. The print stylesheet outputs a clean A4 page.

Can I use a custom VAT rate?

Yes. Type any value from 0 to 100. Anything above the 20% UK standard rate is allowed but flagged in red as a reminder to double-check.

What happens if I delete every line item?

The preview shows an “Add a line item to see your invoice” placeholder and the print button is disabled so you can't send an empty invoice.

How many line items fit on one page?

Eight comfortably, on A4 with default margins and no scaling. Longer invoices simply continue onto a second page.
