A .webm that plays perfectly in Chrome can be a dead end everywhere else. QuickTime, iMovie, Premiere Pro, and most social uploaders expect an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio — not VP8/VP9/AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis audio inside a Matroska container.

This is not a container swap.

This is not a container swap. Renaming .webm to .mp4 does nothing because the codecs inside still aren't MP4-compatible. Our tool actually decodes the VP8/VP9/AV1 video and re-encodes it to H.264, and when audio is enabled it transcodes Opus/Vorbis to AAC at 128 kbps stereo.

Under the hood we use WebCodecs for decode and encode, plus WebAV's MP4 muxer to write the container — all inside the browser tab. The progress bar shows the current stage: demux → decode → encode → mux. Encode is almost always the longest stage, so expect the bar to move quickly at first and then slow down in the middle.

If that recording contains a client call, an internal dashboard, or unreleased material, you've lost control of it the moment it leaves your device.

Our converter never uploads. The .webm is read from local disk, processed with WebCodecs in the tab, and written back as a blob URL. That also means no queue and no account. The trade-off is that your device does the work: a 10-minute 1080p clip will take noticeably longer on a thin laptop than on a desktop, and very large files can hit browser memory limits. We warn above 500 MB but don't block you.

Quality presets are High (8 Mbps), Balanced (4 Mbps), and Small (1.5 Mbps), clamped to a sane bits-per-pixel range for the chosen resolution.

Frame-rate options are keep original, 30 fps, or 24 fps. We drop frames to hit the target; we never duplicate them. That avoids the stutter frame duplication can introduce in some editors.

If your source was a very efficient VP9 encode at low bitrate, re-encoding to H.264 at Balanced can produce a larger file. Verify important numbers on your own files.

WebM files from browser MediaRecorder often have missing or Infinity duration in the header. We read duration via the demuxer and tolerate that, so the converter still runs even when a player shows a blank length. If your browser doesn't expose an AAC encoder (rare, but it happens), we fall back to a muted MP4 and tell you in the result rather than failing silently.

Very large files, AV1 sources on older browsers, or jobs that need precise bitrate and keyframe control are still better handled by a desktop encoder like FFmpeg or HandBrake. What you gain here is privacy and immediacy: no upload, no account, no server-side copy of your screen recording.
