Estimate your checkout total
No button to press — every field recalculates instantly.
How it works
Three inputs, one number that matters.
Type or paste the amount from your checkout page. Symbols and commas are cleaned automatically.
Each state ships with its statewide combined average — state rate plus an average of local rates. Have an exact figure? Override it.
You get the estimated tax, the effective rate used, and the full out-the-door total — including whether shipping was taxed.
Why shoppers use it
Tax and total recalculate within milliseconds of every keystroke and selection. Nothing reloads.
All the math runs in your browser. Your cart amount never leaves your device.
Delivery charges are taxed in some states and not others. We pre-set the common rule and let you flip it.
Know your ZIP's real combined rate? Type it in and the estimate becomes exact — capped at 15%.
Including the four states with no sales tax at all, where the tax line honestly reads $0.00.
On a phone the total stays pinned above the keyboard, so you never lose the number you care about.
Average combined rates by state
State rate + average local rate. Local districts push real ZIP-level rates above these averages.

FAQ
How accurate is this sales tax estimate?
It applies a statewide combined average — the state rate plus a typical local rate — so it is close for most ZIP codes but not exact. If you know your local combined rate, enter it in the override field and the estimate becomes precise.
Why is my actual tax different at checkout?
Two reasons: city, county and special-district taxes vary by ZIP, and marketplaces may tax shipping or apply reduced rates on groceries, clothing or digital goods. An estimate from a single statewide average cannot capture that.
Does online shopping always charge my state's tax?
In the US, a seller with economic nexus in your state collects that state's tax. Big marketplaces collect in all 45 sales-tax states plus DC. That is why the destination state matters more than the seller's location.
Is shipping taxable?
It depends. States like Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Alabama generally tax delivery charges, while California, Florida, Illinois and Virginia generally do not when shipping is separately stated. We pre-set the common rule per state and you can flip the checkbox.
Which states have no sales tax?
Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no statewide sales tax, so the tax line reads $0.00. Alaska has no state tax either, but local boroughs may still charge one — we use a small average there.
Is my purchase amount saved?
No. There is no account, no cart and no server round trip — the entire calculation runs inside this page and disappears when you close it.
