Amount & tax inputs

Five inputs. The result recalculates as you type — nothing is uploaded.

Accepts ₹, Indian comma grouping and spaces — e.g. ₹1,18,000.50

Optional, 0–50. The cess row hides when it is 0.

Pick a standard slab, or choose Other to type any rate from 0 to 50.
Tax exclusive adds GST to the amount; tax inclusive extracts it.
Intra-state splits into CGST + SGST; inter-state uses a single IGST line.

How it works

Three steps, no account, no upload — the calculator is a single HTML page with inline JavaScript.

1 · Enter the amount

Type the checkout or invoice figure. ₹ symbols, Indian comma grouping and stray spaces are stripped automatically, and the field rejects text or negative values instead of showing NaN.

2 · Choose rate and supply type

Pick 0 / 5 / 12 / 18 / 28 or type any custom rate up to 50%. Intra-state splits the tax into CGST + SGST; inter-state shows one IGST line.

3 · Read the breakup

Taxable value, each tax component with its rate and rupee amount, cess if any, and the final payable total — rounded half-up to 2 decimals and reconciled to the paisa.

CGST, SGST, IGST and cess — what the rows mean

India's Goods and Services Tax is a destination-based tax. Where the supply goes decides which components appear on the invoice.

CGST

Central GST. On an intra-state supply the headline rate is halved: 18% becomes 9% CGST, collected by the centre.

half of the GST rate
SGST / UTGST

State (or Union Territory) GST. The other half of the rate goes to the state where the goods are consumed — 9% SGST alongside 9% CGST.

half of the GST rate
IGST

Integrated GST. On an inter-state supply the full rate is charged once and later apportioned between centre and state.

full GST rate
Compensation cess

An extra levy on top of GST for demerit and luxury goods such as large cars, tobacco and aerated drinks. It is charged on the taxable value, not on the GST.

0–50% of base

GST slabs at a glance

The five standard slabs, and what they typically cover. Most goods and services in India sit at 18%.

0%
Nil rated

Fresh vegetables, unbranded atta and rice, milk, salt, and most educational and healthcare services.

5%
Merit rate

Packaged food staples, tea and coffee, medicines and life-saving drugs, economy footwear and apparel under the threshold.

12%
Standard I

Butter and cheese, processed foods, business inputs, umbrellas, and many construction and industrial goods.

18%
Standard II · default

The default slab: most manufactured goods, electronics, restaurants, professional services and IT services.

28%
Luxury & sin

Cars, aerated drinks, tobacco, pan masala and luxury items — often with compensation cess added on top.

+cess
Above 28% in effect

Add a cess percentage in the calculator to model the effective burden on demerit goods.

Built for people checking real money

Precision cues instead of decoration: tabular figures, explicit rates, and a formula line you can paste into a message.

Runs offline after load

Zero network requests after the first page load. The math is plain JavaScript in your browser, so results appear in well under 100 ms.

Two-decimal, half-up rounding

Each component is rounded half-up to 2 decimals, and in inclusive mode the remainder is absorbed so base + CGST + SGST equals the entered total exactly.

Reverse calculation

Enter a tax-inclusive total and get the taxable value back — handy when a marketplace only shows the final price you paid.

Copyable formula line

A one-sentence breakup such as ₹1,000 + 18% GST = ₹1,180 (CGST ₹90 + SGST ₹90) that you can paste into an email or invoice note.

Nothing is saved, logged or sent anywhere. The amounts you type exist only in the tab you are looking at.

Frequently asked questions

Which states count as inter-state?

Any supply that crosses a state or union territory border is inter-state and attracts IGST. A supply within the same state is intra-state and splits into CGST + SGST.

Why does ₹1,180 at 18% give a ₹1,000 base?

Inclusive prices are divided by 1 + rate/100. 1180 ÷ 1.18 = 1000, so the taxable value is ₹1,000 and the tax is ₹180 — ₹90 CGST + ₹90 SGST.

How do you avoid a 1-paisa mismatch?

Components are rounded half-up to 2 decimals, then any remainder from the split is absorbed by SGST (or IGST on inter-state supplies) so the parts always add up to the total.

Does cess apply to the base or to the GST?

Compensation cess is levied on the taxable value, the same base the GST is charged on — not on the GST amount itself.

Can I use a rate that is not in the list?

Yes. Choose Other in the GST rate list and type any value from 0 to 50. The breakup will show the split of your custom rate.

Is this a substitute for a tax invoice?

No. It is a verification aid for buyers and small sellers. For filing, always follow the invoice issued by your supplier or your accounting software.
