How it works

1 · Annualize

Gross pay is multiplied by the number of pay periods (52, 26, 24 or 12).

2 · Deduct & bracket

Pre-tax deductions and the 2025 standard deduction come off, then the 2025 IRS brackets are applied tier by tier.

3 · FICA & Texas

Social Security (6.2%, capped at $176,100) and Medicare (1.45%) are added; Texas state tax is added as $0.00.

Why a Texas paycheck is different

$0.00 state income tax

Texas does not tax individual income, so no state income tax line ever appears on a Texas paycheck. The only withholding is federal plus FICA.

Take-home is higher than in most states

Same salary, same federal brackets — but a Texan keeps what a California or New York earner loses to state income tax.

The trade-off is elsewhere

Texas leans on property, sales and franchise taxes instead. Those never appear on a pay stub, so this tool does not invent a line for them.

FAQ

Does Texas really have no state income tax?

Correct — Texas does not levy a tax on individual wages, and no city or county income tax applies either. That is why the state line in the breakdown is always exactly $0.00.

Which brackets does this use?

The 2025 federal income tax brackets and the 2025 standard deduction ($15,000 single, $30,000 married filing jointly, $22,500 head of household). The 2025 Social Security wage base of $176,100 and the 0.9% additional Medicare tax over $200,000 ($250,000 jointly) are included.

Why is my real paycheck slightly different?

Your employer may withhold using a different method (percentage vs. wage-bracket tables), withhold other post-tax items such as garnishments or Roth contributions, or account for a mid-year pay change. Use your stub's year-to-date figures for the closest annual picture.

What counts as a pre-tax deduction?

Traditional 401(k) and 403(b) contributions, HSA contributions, health and dental premiums, and other qualified cafeteria-plan benefits. They reduce federal income tax and FICA before anything is withheld.

Is any of my data saved?

No. There are no accounts, no cookies for this calculator and no network requests — everything is computed in your browser and disappears when you close the tab.

I live in Texas but work in another state — what then?

You may owe that state's income tax even while resident in Texas. This calculator models a Texas-resident paycheck only; ask the other state's rules for the non-resident case.

What this calculator does — and does not — cover

It covers federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare on a Texas paycheck, and confirms the $0.00 Texas state income tax line. It does not model property tax, sales tax, franchise tax, unemployment tax, local assessments or non-income state taxes, because none of those are withheld from wages. It also does not file anything or replace a tax professional.
